Stopping water wastage for a remote village in Chad
The need
The UK charity MAF was working in a remote village in Chad that had a problem with its water supply being unnecessarily wasted.
It was discovered that a group of resourceful village donkeys had learnt how to turn on the traditional bib-style (garden) taps at the village water well to help themselves to a drink.
Although they’d worked out how to turn the taps on, they didn’t bother or know how to turn them off, and the end result was the regular draining of the village water storage tank.
The solution
The Quick-Stop Tap is a robust, reusable and reliable auto-shut-off tap, designed specifically so that it can’t be left running.
It was originally designed for international aid agencies, for use as part of a multi-outlet tap stand in water distribution systems around disaster relief aid camps.
The robust design makes it ideal for challenging environments, and was the perfect way to ensure the village taps were never left running again, enabling the people of this particular village to save their precious water.
The benefits
- Prevents comunal taps being left running and wasting water.
- Simple mechanical design is incapable of being misused.
- Designed to operate on very low pressure systems (0.3 bar).
- Robust design is ideal for challenging environments.
- Can be fitted to many different sizes of pipework.
